A severe accident affecting Chirano gold mine supply chain

As reported by 'mining.com', An explosion killed at least 17 people in Apiate (Ghana)

Kinross confirmed the incident and said it was monitoring the situation and rescue efforts.

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources is investigating the cause of the blast and whether the companies involved followed regulations covering transportation of explosives, it said in a statement.


Suppliers governance and operational issues are part of responsible supply chains. The causes are under investigations but Kinross Gold Corporation has also to assess the situation. Apparently the origin and the route of the truck carrying explosives is not yet confirmed. Nevertheless the accident might reveal some malfunctions on suppliers work process follow up.


Impacts on communities are very serious.
