Women remain underrepresented in corporates

A report conducted by McKinsey in partenership with LeanIn.Org.

1000 companies in USA have participated in the study over 10 years and about 480'000 people shared their workplace experience.

Despite the fact that the study was made in America, observations denotes behaviors still well anchored in archetypes inherited from the past or reflecting the fear of valuing the person as such.

I invite you to read the report, which is an instructive overview, whose projections for achieving parity frightened me.

While number of measures and priorities have been set up, managers' actions and responsibilities have not reflect the expectations.

Among observations, I would mentioned:

  • Women continue to face barriers at the beginning of the pipeline.

  • Ageism affects young women rather older workers. It has been observed that ' About half of women under 30 say their age played a role in missing out on opportunities at work, and they are almost twice as likely as younger men to field unwanted comments about their age.'

  • Micro aggressions are still poorly managed and as a result, companies risk losing talented employees.

  • The recognition of initiatives coming from women and the disabled are not perceived, at lower levels of hierarchy, as those coming from a man.

  • Managers play a key role in women's career advancement and their support should improve!
